I am an experienced Singing Teacher who can offer lessons to young children, teenagers and adults.
I work from home in Sandown or, by prior arranagement, can teach in a student’s home. A consultation lesson is offered to each new student.
Students learn best when they are enjoying the repertoire they need to practise so we choose pieces together, whether from the sacred or secular choral / solo tradition, German Lieder, French Song, Italian Arias, Oratorio, Opera, Musical Theatre, Popular Songs from 1920’s – current. If students wish to sit practical examinations, I am happy to prepare them for any Syllabus. Some students choose to learn purely for their own pleasure.
As Singing Teacher at All Saints’ Church, Northampton before I moved to the Isle of Wight, I prepared probationer choristers to enable them to progress to being appointed as choristers when they sang in 5 Evensong Services each week and Choral Eucharist on Sundays. I provided individual lessons to all choristers (boys and girls) and also prepared them for solos, having already given them a solid technical grounding for singing. Many of these choristers were subseqently awarded choral scholarships at University and went on to become professional singers or continued to enjoy singing in choirs or as soloists in their adult life. Some students also now work in musical theatre or have formed their own choirs.
When I sang with Northampton Bach Choir, I offered singing lessons to enable success at entrance auditions and to prepare choral singers for their 5 year voice tests. Many adult learners continued as regular pupils, finding a solid technique in breathing and voice production helpful which, in turn, increased their enjoyment in choral singing. Not everyone is a potential soloist but enjoyment by singing with others can be enhanced by having singing lessons. You are never too old to learn!
